Mindfulness for Education Leaders (MEL): designed to introduce mindfulness and support leadership in education settings. MEL has been developed as part of the Innovation Programme of the National Academy for Education Leadership (NAEL) in Wales.
It’s even more important now as leaders face the challenges and uncertainties of maintaining and re-establishing provision acknowledging the traumatic nature of the experience of staff (including themselves) and learners due to the pandemic. It will help leaders cope with the emotional and mental health and wellbeing of staff and learners.
In Wales the programme has particular relevance with the introduction of the new curriculum and the Whole School Approach to emotional and mental health.
It includes helping to:
- develop mindful leadership
- enhance self care and relationships with others
- support better decision making and prioritisation
- boost resilience and enable more effective responses
- support the introduction of the new curriculum and the Whole School Approach in Wales.
Participants tell us:
“It’s helped me to realise when I need to step away from work or another situation to take a moment to reset. I’ve learnt to notice the warning signs that indicate I need to take a break and now have the tools to take that breathing space when required.”
“I would say the main benefit is the sense of calmness that I now have. Times when I feel anxious I can use the strategies to calm myself. This has also helped on the nights where I struggle to sleep.”
“Realising the importance of me, and my good health and wellbeing, not just thinking of others! Sounds selfish I know, but I needed it!”
